Apple Hill

This weekend, I wanted to do something fun! I am a bit tired of always staying home to catch up on laundry piles, house cleaning and grading while everyone else goes having fun! So...I asked to go to Apple Hill.
At first, we planned on going early on Saturday but we also wanted to go to the Farmer's market...so we pushed it off to Sunday. On Saturday, we went to Sunrise market. We have our favorite spots...one stand has the most amazing strawberries. I have been buying from them all summer. Another one has the best peaches and nectarines. The pistachio stand is gone...we bought quite a few of their mixed bags! We also always stop at the Burris Farm stand, an Orangevale one! We buy figs, zucchini and the sweetest grapes ever! Zoe likes going to the market! The boys don't but they sure eat their share of the bounty we bring home!
For lunch we tried the New Thai Kitchen in Roseville. It was a bribe. I asked the kids to help clean the house and clean their room...if they did their part, they would get a lunch at a restaurant! Well, everyone pitched in and we then drove to Roseville and devoured the most yummy foods! I love Thai food! That place was cheap and the servings were large! We started with chicken satay. Aymeric ordered a beef yellow curry; I had a green bean/chicken stirfry; Michael,Zoe and Kilian had different variation of pad thai. We also sampled the Thai ice tea (oh so sweet and "woody").
I then was dropped off home to finish the chores while Michael went shopping with the kids for a new mattress! I am glad I was not there and I can only imagine how much jumping on beds the kids did!
Michael has been wanting a new mattress for a few years now and has been sleeping on the couch most nights because our bed is simply back breaking!
In the evening, we took the kids to their school playground and stayed until dark. It was a very fun evening and the children were very tired once we got home!

This morning, we all woke up early! Grandpa joined us around 7:30 so he could go along to Apple Hill. It was great to go early because we got there as most sites were opening and there was no traffic or parking problems! We stopped at  Abel's Acres first where we absolutely HAD to eat one of their apple fritters. Then we walked around and the kids played in the maze. Next we stopped at Pine'O'Mine where the kids played on the tire swings and then we joined a group of people and explored the orchard, picking apples. Each kid filled a bag. We sampled grapes too in the back of the lot...it was pure syrup! We got back in the car and decided to go to Apple Ridge Farm where we observed farm animals. Aymeric was able to pet the sheep...he had to patiently wait but the sheep did come once by the fence! Zoe enjoyed the small goats!  We followed with a hike on a hot, dusty trail. The kids were picking up rocks and sticks and my pockets ended up full of rocks before we were back to the farm. Next, we stopped at our usual eating place: Grandpa's Cellar! We all ordered a caramel apple sunday and ate it under an apple tree! It was great! Last stop by Boa Vista where we loaded up on hot jalapeno jelly, apple cider, pies and more...I let the kids buy a trinket from one of the vendor and they were quite thrilled!
We finally came home...and in our absence the new mattress had been delivered (thank you Carberry family for staying at our house for a few hours waiting for the delivery truck!). Now I am secretly awaiting bed time...this bed feels luxuriously soft! But it's not bed time yet! First we cleaned up Zoe who attracted all the dust and dirt of apple hill,  tackled homework,  re-housed the tomato worms (they are ready to hide underground to start their metamorphosis!)....now we are working on dinner, smoking brisket in the backyard while Zoe paints, Kilian tinkers...the only one not outside: Aymeric...stuck in his room, obsessing over zombies...I wish weekends lasted longer!!
