Demolition Derby

What an exciting Sunday!! Aymeric and Kilian spent the morning at a park in Roseville. They played in the sandbox and shared their toys with the other kids around (amazing!).
After nap time, we went to the State Fair with Grandpa Dennis. Well, it seems that everyone else had decided to go to the State Fair that day and at that time too!! The lots were full and we ended up in a free parking area. We had to take a school bus that seemed to go everywhere else but the main gate. The boys loved taking the school bus...they see them around all the time and finally, they boarded one!!

We went straight to the arena where the demolition derby was taking place and lo and behold, the place was PACKED!! We walked and walked and yes, we did find a bench to sit on! As show time was approaching, people were pacing up and down looking for a place to sit, with no luck and were ushered out! There was tension in the air and some pretty unhappy people around!

A TV crew was filming a documentary on demolition derby. In the 'backstage' area, there were filming a bunch of guys hitting a car with sledgehammers. Kilian was screaming: 'No don't break the car' (in French). He was pretty concerned. Finally the show started and...Kilian got scared. It was too noisy and it did not make sense: 'why are they having accidents?', 'why are people cheering?'. Aymeric was having a good time (s0 was Tonton Brice)...but Kilian was not too happy. Not only was he not thrilled by the fast, rumbling cars, but he was hungry and tired!
we watched half of the show and then we went for some fresh air and some food.
The kids gobbled up their hot dogs, sampled their dad's barbecue brisket sandwich and washed it all down with Coke. That's some serious Fair food!

Aymeric went on a couple rides: bumper cars and train. Kilian, Michael and Aymeric went on the slide but the kids did not like it this time around and both were scared and sick to their stomach (too much food?). They also tried the balloon pop game and both won a little turtle...that they carried proudly with them!

We saw the fireworks and headed home! It was a very long evening for the boys and they went to bed very late, past 11:00pm! I am sure they had sweet dreams, full of pop corn smell, and State Fair lights and sounds.
