On August 24th, Aymeric started Kindergarten at Orangevale Open. The day before, we took him for some back to school shopping. He picked some much needed new pants and shirts. Every Thursday, for Spirit Day, the kids have to wear orange so we stocked up on orange shirts. Aymeric loves orange so it was easy! Aymeric was anxious to start his new school but was a bit scared and had a hard time falling asleep.
We came early on Monday and he got to play on the playground with Kilian. When the bell rang, the kids lined up and Aymeric did very well. No teary goodbyes, no trying to hide. He stood in line, did the little dance the teacher started and was not surprised by the activities of the day, much of them being like what he used to do in preschool.
Kilian and I waved him good bye through the window and left. Kilian spent his morning with me. We went to the gym, then played outside, cleaned the pool, watered the plants and then it pretty much was time to go pick up Aymeric.
The poor kid was tired after his first day and really did not want to go to daycare but he had no choice!! I have some work to do! So I took him and Kilian to Angels in Action were he had lunch and took a big long nap!
The following days, I had whole day staff meetings so Uncle Chad came early in the morning to watch Aymeric and take him to and back from school. Aymeric loved 'hanging out' with Chad and Kilian was jealous! (Kilian went straight to daycare..no playtime with Uncle Chad!).
So far Aymeric likes his school. He really likes the teacher and all the new things in the classroom. I went last Friday and spent the day there, helping out at one of the table. The whole theme was Egg so they read Humpty Dumpty, made 'Humpty Dumpty eggs' (eggs cooked within a slice of bread),cracked an egg and looked at it with a magnifying glass to see all parts, made a story book, an Humpty Dumpty poster (by tearing paper which the kids hate...they all wanter scissors!) and finally played with filled plastic eggs, having to decide if the creature inside was born from an egg or not.
At recess the kids got a special treat because there was a birthday girl in the class. Then the last 20 minutes were spent on songs and 'monkey cards'. The monkey cards depict one monkey or two doing crazy moves or pauses and the kids have to imitate them. They had a blast! Most of them revolves around balance and discerning left/right...
Aymeric will go on lots of fieldtrips, an average of 2 a month. The first on is coming up soon....September 15th: Fairy Tale Town. On his birthday, he will go see a play: Pinocchio.
So far so good, Aymeric likes school and is doing well.
